Bathroom sink with hot and cold water handle, no cold water comes out

Searched around the forum, and the only thing I could find was about hot water issues. I bought a mid 90's house about a year ago, and it has multiple sinks that still operate well.

The issue I have: During a party with about 50 people the cold water handle stopped working. This is in my main floor bathroom sink that has a hot and cold water handle. The hot water handle still works, but when you pull the cold water handle, nothing comes out. It has been broken for about a month now.

Could it just be a broken piece inside the handle that no longer opens the water valve?

Thanks:No Beer 4U:

Only way to find out is to take it out. Does the handle turn? If so I would say the handle is stripped on the stem. If not then the valve stem or cartdrige is siezed by rust or calcuim deposits.

Yup, the handle still turns normally. I'll open it up tomorrow and let you know what I see.
Thanks
