Onyx Showers - What am I missing?

So I'm interviewing contractors for a bathroom remodel and they keep pushing "Onyx" showers and shower pans on me. I guess it's becoming pretty popular. I don't get what all the buzz is about.

To me, it just looks like another synthetic resin, not much different than Corian or the cultured marble junk I'm getting rid of. Sure it may be easier to clean and have a "liftetime warranty," but it looks cheap!

I suspect these contractors like the fabricated showers because they lack the skill to make a water-tight tile shower.

Thoughts?

And to avoid any confusion, I'm not talking about the translucent onyx natural stone. There is a Kansas manufacturer called Onyx that make synthetic showers/tubs/vanity tops that are sold at Lowes I think.

Ease of installation = speed of installation = more profit = equals happy contractor at the expense of the home owner who has to live with it.

I would continue interviewing and be up front about what you want. Be is a custom tile shower, or a tub shower combo, or granite counter tops, tell them what you want. If they are not interested, thank them for their time and move on to the next. As a contractor, it is my job to build you what you want, not what makes me the most money. And, if they are not listening to you now, just think how fun it will be once they have a deposit.:NO NO NO:
