Mixed Single Shower Faucet Spins All The Way Around Continuously

Recently moved into our house and both shower faucets continuously spin around without stopping at the hottest and coldest spots, making it hard to find the warmest water. Both shower faucets are single stem pull handles (pull out to start and in to stop). There is not a brand name or logo. We just replaced one of the cartridges (Danco 80461) and we replaced the handle with a universal handle and this did not stop the spin. We are wondering if it's possible that the previous homeowners replaced the handles and covers with parts that do not fit because it seems as though something in the handle should be stopped by the grey lever that sticks out from the cartridge. Sorry I do not know all of the plumbing lingo!

There should be a stop insert of some sort. I believe MOEN used a push pull system on many older shower systems that were very popular with new construction. What made you buy that particular DANCO unit? How did you know it would fit the valve body? Perhaps one of our plumbing experts can ID the brand.

We took the old cartridge with us to Menards and found the identical replacement cartridge. Were would a "stop insert" be located? Is it on the valve?

If it wasn't included with the repair kit then yes it should be in the valve set. But I suspect it was discarded or lost by the previous owners for whatever reason. Go to the web sites of the companies listed on the package and see it you can ID the valve from their catalog and maybe get the stop from them.

There are two types of that cartridge. One has long sleave one has short sleave.

I believe that tab on that grey piece needs to fit in the slot on the sleeve. And the handle ( which is most likely wrong) should have a stop in it that hits that tab....

The instructions on the cartridge replacement do not mention a stop insert.

Great, thank you. I'll try to find the handle locally to see if it it stops the problem.

The pictures are two different showers, but with the same problem. Here is a clearer picture, I double checked & they are both in the slots. I'm still looking for a store with that handle. I will let you know what I find! Thanks. Name: image.jpg
