Use grease on Amer. Std. replacement cartridges - tub faucet?

Have American Standard "Williamsburg" tub & shower faucet.
They sent replacement cartridges for the water control & the "pressure balancing cartridge" - (maintains hot & cold balance).

Should I grease the o-rings & seals before installing new cartridges?

Per A.S. support, the only instructions on installing them are from the original "rough in & installation guide."
Install: http://www.americanstandard-us.com/a...stall_2164.pdf

Parts: http://www.americanstandard-us.com/a...Parts_2164.pdf

Nothing mentioned about using grease (e.g., silicone) on the seals / surfaces, before inserting new cartridges in this tub faucet (many gaskets, seals).

For an A.S. , single handle kit faucet I have, they sent instructions w/ replacement parts & included silicone grease. Mentioned places to apply the grease.

Thanks.

Hi Dunnit,

Yes, use silicone grease to grease the O-Rings on the cartridge. This will help to preserve the O'Ring as well as keep a nice seal once the cartridge is in the valve. I used to be an engineer at Di Vapor (where I specialized in all the different types of cartridges, including repair).

So even though it will probably work without the silicone grease, I'd grease the O-Rings for a proper installation.
