Replacing shower cartridge

Hello all,

We have a leaking single handle shower faucet, and it's been like that for a while. I know we need a removal tool for a cartridge, but our handle and faucet are not stamped with any company's logo, so i am not sure where to look for a tool. When we moved in, before we started replacing fixtures, we noticed that everything in the house was "American standard" (house was built in 1974, if that helps), but we never touched the tub. The faucet in our second bathroom isn't branded either, so we can't even guess.
How would we go about finding a correct tool to remove the cartridge? Thanks!
