tightening Kohler toilet seat?
The seat in this (possibly 90s) Kohler toilet has gotten quite loose, but I cant make out how to tighten it. It has these wing-type nut things below, but they are so large they cant be turned or tightened. And there is no hidden hardware under top tabs like you sometimes see. Any idea how to proceed?

That looks like a self catching wingnut. That would suggest that the screw head has a slot in it for tightening with a screwdriver.

I will take another look for the screw heads, they seem to be hidden somehow. Thank you! PS, if I find them, would this bolt be a good candidate for swapping out with metal ones?
Update: looking again I see the seat is actually marked bemis.

The top of the toilet seat hinge will usually have a snap-on cap. Remove the cap and you can access the bolt head.
No, do not use a metal bolt as it will rust (steel bolt) or corrode (brass bolt) to the point that you will need to saw it off when it comes time to replace the seat.
