Any sealant you have now (silicone or other) will need to be removed prior to applying any product over it. The reason for this is the original application will have moisture damage and mildew/mold already growing on and under it. Applying another coating over it will only cause the mold and mildew to show through in short order. Phenoseal only has a 6 year warranty, so it says something of itself there. GE Silicone II is a good product for showers, although silicone is not soap and water clean up as is Phenoseal.

Phenoseal is worthless IMO. What's the exact problem?

Pulpo..... when you make a statement like that...... explain it.

Phenoseal is water based and should not be used in the presence of continuous water or where it will always be wet.

You'd want to use a silicon based sealant preferably with a mildewcide additive.

I guess that was my mistake. What is the correct usage?

Phenoseal is decent caulk but like all caulks it has specific uses with a shower/tub not being one of them. It's good for most any caulking job that includes painting.

I merged the two threads. No need to have more than one going on the same subject.
