Identifying shower/bath faucet knob

I'm hoping someone is familiar enough to help identify this. I don't have the original cap/faucet that would make this a whole lot easier. I just want to replace the knob, if possible.

Hints:
* You turn it on by lifting it up (NOT pulling it towards you)
* You control temperature by rotating it left/right
* Inner dimension is about 1.75", outer dimension is about 2.25". From the looks of it, I'm guessing the original was about the size of a tennis ball.
* Built in the last 5-10 years or so.
* Most of what's at Home Depot looks too small to fit around the outer dimension. The one Delta knob they had, I'd need a longer screw than what they gave me and it'd be sticking out (since it wasn't wide enough to wrap around the outer dimension).

What part do I need to buy to replace this? Thanks!

Looks like a Delta.
Any Lowes or HD should have them.

I've got a scald proof Delta along that same line; but it lacks the hexagonal nut that you have portrayed. The Delta Knob is a big multi-faceted ball, looking like a giant plastic diamond.

Mind if I ask what happened to the original knob . . . . these things don't ordinarily disappear down the drain ?

Definitely looks like Delta. Possibly something in the Delta 600 line.

The renter apparently broke it, threw it away, and moved out without telling me... and I don't remember what the original was ;-P.

I guessed at one of the Delta options at HD and it didn't fit. From google images, the Delta 600 line looks like a closer match -- I'll pick one of those up and give it a shot. Thanks!

OK, so I bought like 5 handles at Home Depot and none of them fit.

It has a square "broach" with rounded corners -- Delta is either diamond or rectangular. I think it's this brand:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000BOB4IW

Which does not appear to be carried at Home Depot. So, I'm going to buy some handles matching this brand from Amazon and check whether they fit.. wish me luck =/.

I gather that there's no identification behind that face plate that's held on by the two phillips screws; or available via some access panel behind the wall ?

I admire your patience; By now, I would be opting for a new shower valve rather than trying to match up the knobs.

Looks like I might have to bite the bullet -- the one I overnighted from Amazon didn't fit.

I'd buy a trim kit, but I think that I'd have the same problem where I couldn't find a match?

So, what is the minimum I need to replace (i.e. what do I need to buy from Home Depot)? :-/
