sewer smell coming from bathroom sink

I have a bathroom sink that emits a sewer smell when the plug is left open. I thought maybe a plugged vent or bad trap. checked the vent coming from the roof and it is good, took apart the trap under the sink and it seemed to be doing its job, looked clean and no cracks, trap full of water when I took it apart. I can[t figure how the sewer gas is coming up through the trap when it is full of water and the vents are good. I have a tub/shower in the next bathroom plus another faucet, and a shower stall in the bathroom that is having the gas leak. no problems with any of them. I replaced the vanity top, faucet, and drain pipe last winter. had the ones replace in there for 20 years with no problem. any ideas?

Take the trap off and wash it. The crud in them stinks after a while. Or just replace it.

took the trap off and washed it, but I just cleaned the pipe from the trap up to the sink and it had quite a bit of build up on it, will wait and see if it fixes the problem. thanks

35 years of crud build up. I think you had a pretty good run.
