Blocked shower drain

My shower drain seems to be blocked. I was able to remove hair and gunk build up from the surface of the drain, but the problem has not been resolved.
It seems the blockage is down deeper.
When the shower is run there is a build up of water in the basin of the bath. And soon your feet are completely immersed.
I got this little wire tool. Has anyone tried using one of these before on a shower drain. Can it be resolved easily, or do you think I should get a plumber?
I think i may have to remove the drain surface plate before using the tool.Name: Wire Tool _01.JPG

Well, you've got a drain auger in your hand. Have you tried it?

Where the clog is can depending on whether or not you have a shower only or a tub and shower. Tubs often have a drain stopper built into the piping underneath the tub. Clogs often occur there. The snake/auger can often get the clog but sometimes you need to remove the stopper. Dedicated showers do not have a drain stopper so clogs are often in the trap.

You may want to try one of these:

They cost a couple of bucks and work pretty well if the clog is close to the drain (likely). Especially good on hair clogs, which are common in showers and tubs.

Snake through the overflow opening not through the drain opening.
