How to stop tub shower from making loud noise?

I have a tub that whenever my kids take shower, it always make loud noises. I can hear from across the room. It's not the shower head because I've already replace that. It seems to make the noise when I lift the lever to bypass it from the tub spout to the shower head.

If it's a loud squealing noise it may be coming from the tub spout itself. The little diverter you lift to force the water to go to the shower head is often loosely fitting and can make a loud squeal. Often, if this is the problem, you can temporarily alter the noise by putting pressure on the diverter stem.

If your water pressure is in normal range per Joe's suggestion, then replacing the tub spout may be your best bet. Avoid the cheaply made spouts.

Yes, the noise only starts when we lift the diverter. I should note that after the water has been diverted to the shower, water are still flowing out of the spout for maybe around 5 minutes before the water finally comes to dripping.

Single handle or double?
About how old is the faucet?
It's a double handle and I believed it has been for 25 years.
