need help identifing faucet and repair

I've got a dual handle tub faucet that needs repair. The cold handle goes past the stop, so if you don't line it up just right, you'll get water coming out of the faucet. I'm guessing I need to replace the cartridge.

Here's some pics... If you look at the cleanout/access cover there's what looks like a K stamped on it. Makes me think it's a Kohler, but every other faucet in my place is a Moen.

Can anyone help?

Thanks!

I keep coming up with this Moen set using the 940.

That's what I kept getting too and all other faucets are Moen. That K stamp is what's throwing me off. Assuming it's a Moen, can I assume it's going to take a 1248 cartridge? If so, do you know if there's a cold or hot cartridge I need to look for?

BTW, assuming it's a Moen, can I replace the cartridge from the top? There's no way to access the below, without busting up the tile.

Thanks!

The cartridges are changed from the top. Most use one part # for hot and cold.
You would need to shut the water off to the faucet though.

I'm pretty sure it's Moen and a 1248 cartridge.
You need to get the handles off. Hold the handle lever securely while turning the bell housing CCW.

It could just be the handle adapter or the knob adapter:

Here's a view of the cartridge:

I would call Moen or go to website. These parts might be offered free of charge. I'm more familiar with Delta and have had no problem receiving parts.

Handyone,

I had pulled handle off and did find that the screw of the handle adapter kit (100115) was not in the handle. I had to fish it out as it was sitting in the Hot & cold handle adaptor, but I got it out. I screwed it back in to where it belonged but it didn't fix the problem...

Thanks for that diagram of all the parts. Based on what I saw, it's what you posted and I'm now guessing the problem is the handle adapter.

I'll be sure to give them a call tomorrow..

Thanks All!!

So I called Moen and was told the problem is the lower stem... They said they're going to send me one and I should have it in about 7 days..

Thanks all!!
