Help! Strange stuff happening with bathroom tap!!

Hi all,

Hoping you can help. The last couple of weeks I have had 2 issues with my upstairs bathroom tap:

1. When switching the hot tap on after 20 sec or so the pressure starts to lower and eventually just dribbles out. If I turn the tap further the pressure increases but eventually reduces again
2. the cold tap after a few seconds makes a loud sound (possible the pipe) and water stops completely , turning the tap further gets the water back

Does anyone know what this could be or how to resolve this?

One possibility is the washers in your stop valve at the wall have either come loose or are causing a blockage once the water warms up.

Are your taps an older style or newer washer-less types?

If they re the older style I have seen worn cartridge threads cause the stem to be loose and flop around.
Is there a bit of looseness to the stem if you try to move the handle back and forth.
You could try tightening the packing nuts or replacing the cartridges.

How old is the home, and what type of pipes do you have? Copper? Pex? Galvanized?

Interesting, where would I find the stop valve at the wall? Would it be under the basin or downstairs?

Well one thing that has happened recently was the tap if only slightly tightened would spin round and pop off which meant I had to try and tighten the tap end back on to turn the water off. Could this be relevant?

Please below a photo of the tap...

I'm not sure how to tell which material the pipes are, is there a different photo I can take to help answer?

You should have told us this in your first post!

the tap if only slightly tightened would spin round and pop off
The treads on the stem are stripped and you either need new cartridges or new taps if you don't want to mess with it.
