drain pipe and trap

Is there a minimum or maximum a drain pipe can go into a p-trap? I am more concerned about how far in the drain can go in. For example, can I bottom out the drain pipe in the trap or would that cause an issue? Thanks

Most lav or kitchen p traps limit how far the tailpiece can go into the trap. Generally you don't want it to extend so far that it is in the curved part of the trap.
