Moen 1222 still leaks when running.

My bath faucet was dripping. I replaced a Moen 1222 cartridge with a "just as good" generic version that was still pricy($40). After having to chisel out the plastic that bonded to the sides I cleaned the inside of the pipe making sure no residue or debris remained. Followed all instructions, lubed the new cartridge and reinstalled. The drip from faucet is fixed, but now when I run water there is a drip from behind the handle at the new cartridge. It drips in front of the escutcheon but it can very easily go back into the wall. Did I do something wrong? do I need to go with Moen proper and not a knock off? Is there a gasket or puddy I should have used?

From my professional experience the knock off cartridges will leak. You the moen brand and if it still leaks then you'll need a new shower valve.

Agreed. I have had bad experiences with knockoffs, both Delta and Moen. Usually both of those companies will send replacement parts at no charge.
