Installing Water Line for Refrigerator Ice Maker
I was wondering if someone could help me. I would like to install a refrigerator with an ice maker. The refrigerator is on the opposite side of my sink. My initial thought is that I can run the line from the basement. I was going to purchase the Sharkbite ice maker installation kit, but I'm not sure if that's a good option. I saw some postings online where people suggested using braided stainless instead of PEX. Is that a better choice? How would I accomplish a 90 bend. I would have to bend the line to get through the bottom plate and up the wall. On the kitchen side, I would install an ice maker outlet box. Are there any specific codes that I need to be aware of? Sorry for all of the questions. I'm much more familiar with electrical, and I'm just learning plumbing.

I have no problem recommending a sharkbite icemaker box using pex.
You could just run 1/4" copper tube from your water source and connect that to the fridge with an in-line valve behind the fridge.
Do not use a saddle valve for your water source because it might void the warranty

Here's an in-line valve, it is compatible with 1/4" copper:

The water line doesn't need to go thru the wall.
Drill a hole in the floor at the wall and bring the line up there.
I like to leave enough line to pull the fridge out for servicing.
PEX is fine for the line.
