How do I break 20 years of water calc holding metal shell to faucet stem?
I have Price Pfister faucets and diverter in my shower. The diverter faucet does not direct all water up to the shower head or down to the spout. I thought I would pull the valve stem in order to investigate.
I have removed the plastic handle but the metal shell that is attached to the valve stem and mates with the handle is stuck to the stem. I have tried (1) immersing the diverter faucet in a baggie full of vinegar overnight and (2) squirting Home Depot's "Blaster" (a penetrating catalyst spray) into the front of the shell (where the handle bolt goes). I have not been able to jar the shell loose.
There is perhaps 20+ years of water calc "gluing" metal parts together. All suggestions to break this seal would be most appreciated.
Thanks, LynnX
