shower faucet cartridge stuck 80% in

So I know these cartridges can be hard to get out, but I have never heard of this problem...

I used the tool, and rotated it, and it broke somewhat free.... then I bought a puller, and it comes like 20% out, then stops. I've pulled on it really hard (the tub faucet is even coming out of the wall when I'm pulling it) and it wont come out.....

It's out too far to use the "jack" part of the puller

It feels like something is stuck.... has anyone experienced this?

Checkout the attached image.. Thanks!

Did you pull the retainer clip (96914) on top up & out? If you did, you might try putting a wrench on the white plastic cartridge and turning it.

It's hard tell from all the dirt and crud on the stem, but I agree I think the retaining pin is still installed.

Thanks for the replys... yeah, I took out the retaining pin....

I think I know the issue....my house has a centralized water hub inside my house..... so instead of turning off the main water valve, I just shut off the valve on the hub to this outlet...... So I'm thinking that's producing a vacuum, not allowing it to come out

The top of that valve is open to the shower head so no chance of vacuum there.
It's just plain stuck.

You need to pull it straight out with a pair of pliers and a twisting motion.
You'll be replacing the entire 1222 cartridge.

Hold the valve in while pulling. Don't want to damage the plumbing.
The cartridge needs to turn. The crap should break free.

The Cartridge will turn about 40 degrees around, then it stops (while its sticking out some like in the picture)... should it be able to turn the full 360?

It should be able to turn 360. Something might be caught inside. You may have to saw off the front of the cartridge to clear it, then remove the rest with an easy-out, or dig it out in pieces.

Ok, I got vice grips and forced it to rotate, then I rotated it slowly, while pulling it, and it came out!

Looks like the rubber pieces on the side were getting caught, and as soon as that tore, it was easy to get out.

Thanks!
