How to remove drain valve from toilet tank?

Hi everyone,

My toilet tank is leaking, so I would like to replace the gasket. However, removing the flush valve is quite tricky. Do you guys have a hint how to do that?

The valve looks like this:
  • There are two plastic tubes connected, the bottom one is fixed, and the top one is moving inside the fixed one. This top tube operates the gasket.
  • The fixed tube on the bottom is wrapped in polystyrene, and stands on a round plastic base. This plastic base seems to be fixed, at least I see no way to remove it.
  • At the bottom of this round plastic base there is a lever, whose two end points are about 90 degrees apart, but moving it does not seem to make any difference.
  • Inside the inner tube there is a thin white rod (which does not move), against which flush button is fixed.

You can see a couple of pictures here. On the second image I'm holding the upper, moving tube (which also operates the gasket).

What I've tried so far, is to move the lever on the plastic base, and also to rotate the upper moving tube in the lower fixed one, but absolutely nothing happened.

I'm guessing you need to turn off the water supply and remove the supply line, then take the tank bolts off and remove the tank from the toilet. There is likely a large plastic nut on the bottom of the tank.

you might also want to fill your profile out to let everyone know where you are from. This is a US site and we don't have toilets exactly like that.
