Chipped Fiberglass Tub
Hi guys, so I just got done shimming a jacuzzi that started making noise. I cleaned up, was all smiles, and then... the wife and kids said "oh btw over a year and a half ago we chipped the upstairs tub".
I immediately went upstairs to investigate (praying it wasn't in the tub) and there it was in the bottom side. A small, tip of the fingernail, sized chip in the coating exposing the fiberglass underneath. The crack in the coating seemed to be traveling as well.
First question, is this tub most likely leaking or is the fiberglass waterproof?
Second question, if it is leaking, how bad would it be, a few drips or should I be making plans to cut into the wall and check?

FWIW...Just two days ago a customer came in with a similar problem. But just wanted to reinforce his previous patch job. He claims he used a super glue on very similar chip and crack. Claims it's held for years. Just recently the chip started showing again and what he thought was hair line crack. I suggest J-B weld marine type. He decide to use super glue again. Haven't heard from him since. He said he would be back to try the J-B weld if the super glue did not work.
