How do I fix this shower drain?

I know its dirty, but the places where the screws once went in are like filled in solid. So do I just use caulking and put it on after cleaning everything?

I would clean everything good and use a clear bead of clear caulk around the outside of the drain fitting and then drop the grate on it. It should be easy enough to pull the grate out in the future for cleaning.

Yes, a very fine bead of clear bath silicone neatly positioned around the tile perimeter... then gently put the strainer on... press it down only until it is flush with the tile... don't put so much silicone on that it gushes out everywhere and makes a mess. Allow 24 hrs to dry before using.

Another option is to drill and tap new holes - just be careful not to drill too far. Then use stainless screws. I did this on my shower.

X and PJ...I tried this years ago on a shower grate that no longer fastened. I found that the silicone deteriorates under constant water conditions. I considered using a marine grade, but never bothered.

You basically have two choices...... the silicone or drilling holes.
If it were me.... I wouldn't be drilling holes.
