Fire clay sink problem

Purcashed an apron style fireclay sink on-line -- brand name Whitehaus purchased through Wayfair. The sink is about seven months old and cracked in a corner while dishes were being washed by hand. It now has a hole the size of a quarter. The sink has a limited lifetime warranty but the manufacturer and Wayfair claim his is not covered. They claim the lifetime warranty is valid up until the time the sink is installed. Anyway, I am inquiring as to whether fireclay sinks fail in general. And also whether it can be repaired without replacement. It is going to be an ordeal getting the existing sink out and a new one in with granite counters in place.

Any advice would be appreciated on how to handle this unfortunate situation. I doubt I will buy another sink on-line and certainly won't purchase from Wayfair or Whitehaus. Both company's customer service are really bad.

 

Clay sinks are great for Architectural Digest photo shoots but I have never considered them a option in a kitchen that actually gets used. So, I would start searching for a sink of a different material. You can patch your hole but it won't be pretty and it won't last for long as the patch might be more durable than the rest of the sink.

 

So I we were to buy it and never use it, it has lifetime warranty? May not be worth the effort, but I would call your State Attorney General office and complain. I don't think this meets the Uniform Commercial Code (if it applies).

That's correct. They said limited lifetime is intended to cover damage caused in shipping -- once the sink is installed, no more shipping damage issues. Pretty misleading.

 

Pretty misleading...... no...... more like fraud. That is not the definition of limited lifetime warranty.

That being said...... I can understand them not covering accidental damage during use. That would not be considered a manufacturer defect which is what a limited lifetime warranty is supposed to cover.

 

hahahahahahahaha....That's like buying a used car fully warranted till you drive it off the lot!

 

Not so unlike driving a brand new car off the lot and having it depreciate several thousand dollar within seconds.
