removing shower handle face plate

I want to remove a shower handle face plate (two Phillips head screws), however, the handle is in the way. I thought I could use a ratchet to get under the handle but the space is too narrow. What is the easiest way to loosen the two screws? Thanks

Look for a set screw on the underside of the handle.

You will need an Allen wrench to remove the handle. Once the handle is off you can remove the two screws holding the escutcheon plate in place. If you want to remove the decorative stem cover it just slides into place.
