Shower drain smell
Good morning everyone, we live in a house that was built in 1978 and have noticed a sewer smell coming from the shower drain. We cleaned it, and it helped for a few days, but it is back....the pipe does look like it has a trap, so I don’t think that’s the problem. The drain is pretty rusted out. I have attached some pictures. Any thoughts on this and possible remedies without ripping up tile? Thanks

I’m wondering if a sure seal product would help (let water down, but no gases back up) would
help, but I also think the trap should be keeping the gases out

No, there is no way to replace that part of the drain without remodeling the shower.
If you just get down next to the drain like when taking the pictures. Do you smell the smell then or does the smell just happen randomly at other times?
When you are getting the smell check by the toilet to see if you are getting the smell there. It is very common for the toilet's wax seal to leak and allow sewer gas into the room.

It seems like it happens randomly (but more often than not) I am almost positive it is from the shower drain. And if I smell down there now, I do not smell it (probably cause I threw some cleaner down there).

Before going to the mess and expense of removing the shower I would try cleaning the drain with a good enzyme drain cleaner. I'd try it several times before I resorted to ripping it out and replacing it all.
