Toilet tank water not refilling; clean or replace flush valve?

Hi All:

My toilet tank fails to refill with water after a flush. When this occurs, the problem seems to be the toilet flush valve. To fix this (for now), I've noticed that pushing horizontally (i.e., to the left side of the toilet tank) on the piece of the flush valve that I've marked in a red box in the attached picture immediately restarts the refilling process.

Any ideas on what is causing this issue? Does it make sense to remove the valve cap and run a "flush" procedure to try and clean any debris that may exist in the flush valve's head unit? Or does this seem like a bigger job to fix?

Any information or suggestions are welcome. (The current flush valve is a FluidMaster.)

Thanks in advance.

Try removing the cap and cleaning. If that's not successful a new Fluid master is recommended and they aren't very expensive.

You can clean the fill valve but most people find it not worth the hassle and just replace it with a new one, but opening it up is fun to see how it works. They are well less than $10.
