Haven't bought the replacement for this old Delta 3 handle POS yet (hoping to switch to a single handle - suggestions for a well-made brand welcome), but I could use some help with how to remove this one. I've done some plumbing, but never replaced a tub faucet. What order do you recommend for sweating off the connections, and will I need to make any cuts? Thanks!
If you don't have shut off valves right at the shower.... leave the valve as it is for now so that you have water in the house. You'll be needing to cut the copper and probably replace fittings.
There are many name brand shower valves. Too many to recommend.
Stick with a name brand like Moen, Kohler, Pfister and Delta.... the biggies.
Once you get the one you want.... then address how to remove the old one and plumb the new one.
Thanks, Pete. So, rather than de-soldering the old fittings, you're saying I should just cut the pipe and replace them, right? And stick with sweating the new connections vs. using PEX, in your opinion?
I just replaced the valve stems on the current junker, but it still needs to go. Just a sloppy valve set, and no balancing or anything. I'm looking for a model that isn't all plastic (I know, good luck), and doesn't cost a grand. Thanks again - have a great week.
American Standard Champion 4 Flush valve [p/n 3174.002-0070AP] having trouble finding a part number/name for this gasket. Gasket goes on the bottom threaded part of the flush valve before setting it into the tank to bowl gasket. Its the gasket circled in red and is grey in color. 2 of 3 toilets need this replaced due to using "cleaners" in the tank.

Hello DIYers, and thank you for being here. Darned disposer. It hums when I turn it on but the motor won't engage. I've been working on it and the innards turn freely with the Allen wrench but the motor won't engage. Okay, I'll replace the darned thing. I already bought a new one and I started to detach the old one. First connection, CCW loosens easily by hand. But, the second connection won't budge. So, I'm not even sure I'm going after the right connect. I assume it's the one in the back in the photos because it has those notches but, well, I can't budge it by hand. Is there a tool I can use? Something to loosen it first? Is that the wrong place to be trying? Yep, a few photos so maybe some good advice from the DIY community.
Always grateful for your assistance. Ken
