i had to replace two vanities and two faucets. the first faucet install went fine. no issues. the 2nd faucet on the other hand is leaking pretty bad between the gasket on the faucet tailpiece and the underside of the porcelain sink.
i've checked the sink hole and there doesn't appear to be any damage. i've tightened it really tight: no luck. i've hand tightened it: no luck. i had an extra new tailpiece from a previous faucet and tried installing that one: no luck. for some reason, the gasket just won't make a water tight seal. =(
any suggestions? can i use a bead of silicone caulk between the gasket and sink? i used plumber's putty on the flange and that seems fine.
unfortunately, the vanities came with the under mount sink already glued to the counter top and vanity so i can't just replace the sink and/or counter top.
thanks!
i've also attached a picture and a link to a video (not sure if links are allowed, please remove if not allowed).
wanted to give an update and ask a follow up question. unfortunately the light sanding and grease didn't work because after a more careful inspection, i found a small chip on the lip of the basin. (see pic) i called the manufacturer and they said they would send out another ceramic under mount sink.
i really did't want to remove the current sink and install another under mount sink so i figured i would try a few things.
1) applied a dab of silicone caulk to the chip, waited over night to cure and attached the sink tailpiece again. lasted about 30 secs before leaking again
2) scraped and wiped away the silicone caulk and applied a small amount of JB Waterweld. waited overnight. next day i used a dremel and sanded it down. (see pic). unfortunately didn't have any ceramic touch up paint. but pleasantly surprised that the leaking stopped and i had the water running for a good amount of time.
do you guys think the Waterweld is going to hold up? i'm considering hitting the gasket with a bead of clear silicone caulk as well.
i have experience with the JB Plastic Weld but not the Waterweld, so that is very reassuring because i really didn't want to have to remove and reinstall the under mount sink. lol
ran some more water today and it's still doing well.
Using some drain cleaner in my kitchen sink to clear a clog. How do I make sure the drainer clears the P-trap to go down thru the line? Direction say to use 16 ozs. of 32 ozs bottle and leave for 10 minutes. Then flush the drain with hot water after the 10 minutes. It seems most of the drain cleaner will set in the P-trap for that time and not continue on down through the pipe? When does the cleaner take effect thru the line? Thanks!

I have a small bathroom off my garage that has a handy sink in it for washing paint brushes etc. it has a metal P trap under it that is fully exposed and it has developed a crack in the bottom that is leaking. This trap is 60 years old, and is metal. I would really like to remove it without destroying all the other pipes connected to it. Would a plumber use a propane torch to loosen things up without destroying the fittings?Read More
