Internet speed ads

Why is it that during the evening news we have to be subjected to 50 ads about how fast "our" internet speeds are ?

Verizon Fios and Optimum cable. Touting that they are each faster than the other for less money. Now Fios has 750M service for the same price. Who are they kidding.

I have Fios 50 + 50 and am paying extra for it.
Cable internet speeds were dismal around here during peak times.

My speed can range from slightly faster than advertised to maybe a tenth of advertised depending on which server I connect to during a speed test. More often than not I think it is the site I am attempting to connect to that has the slower speed problem.

On a similar note, why does Microsoft Edge keep popping up a warning that Firefox is slowing me down and using more resources than Edge will? How to stop the pop-up?
