Servicing

I've been noticing an alarming and growing trend.

Gas furnaces and boilers are not a "buy and forget it" appliance. The manufacturer recommends annual servicing. I feel every other year is ok. I'm seeing members with better than 25 years of operation with NO servicing. That just floors me.

If you don't want to get overcharged call your gas provider but don't ignore the service. We read about gas explosions and blame everyone but ourselves.

I agree, Pete. I don't have gas, except to my generator and an "emergency" stove in the basement, and are total electric with heat pump. Still, my installer calls every 6 months (beginning of seasons) and sets up maintenance appointments. It may cost $75, but he cleans the coils, puts stuff down the condensate trap, checks the condensate pump for proper operation and changes my filters (I buy my own media), so I think it is a bargain, plus it helps if I need a service call, they know the condition of the units beforehand.
