How do I know if the floor is level?

Okay, another dumb question!! We are installing vinyl sheet and the instructions say that whenever possible, leave on the excisting vinyl. That I like!! Less work. The excisting floor has a very shallow pattern and I need to know if we have to use that leveler stuff. How do we know if it is level? Is it better to remove old? We have to have all of this work done in the next week, we move in on the weekend. Help!!

Installing vinyl over vinyl

Make sure that installing your new product does not void manufacturer's warranties. Vinyl requires a super smooth subsurface. If the old floor is a rigid vinyl and is firmly attached, you may be able to install vinyl over vinyl. If the surface has any embossing, the floor should be leveled with an appropriate leveling product. You trowel the product onto the floor to create a smooth surface. A 1/4" recommended plywood underlayment installed over old vinyl is typically recommended.
