Question removing glue under vinyl floor

I want to take up the vinyl tiles currently on the kitchen floor and put down new ones. They are loose and separating from each other. How do I get the old glue up and prep the floor to lay down the new vinyl tiles? Does anyone know what products I need to use or pitfalls I need to be aware of?

On a concrete subfloor:

Razor floor scraper. 4" blade, 1-1' handle for good leverage. Those stand up scrapers don't cut it.

On a wood subfloor:

There may be a 1/4" plywood underlayment installed under the tile. If so, take it up and install new underlayment. If not, it's time to install some now.

Remember to use clear spread VCT tile adhesive following the instructions on the glue container, and don't set the tile into wet glue. Use the glue even if it is peel & stick
