vinyl over vinyl

Stupid question, but can perimiter glued vinyl sheet be installed directly over existing full surface glued vinyl. I know the thing to do would be to put down luan or something, but I can't raise the height of the floor by very much and getting the old vinyl up looks like a real chore.

Yes it can be done. You will want to use an embossing leveler to fill in the embossed pattern of the existing vinyl. If it is a smooth vinyl just go over it as long as the edges are secure.

go ahead and emboss anyway just for insurance you don't want to take a chance of that pattern bleeding through after all that work

Make sure you use the proper mastic for vinyl to vinyl adhersion.
If it is Armstrong, one of their interflex mastics (s-665) is labeled for this type of application, their other interflex mastic is not. Read the labels.
