We have vinyl tile (12x12) flooring in our kitchen. I believe they are the self-adhesive kind, but I am not totally sure, as they were installed before we purchased the home. Several tiles by the back door are pulling up at the corners. In fact upon closer inspection it seems that about 1/2 of the ones in the area by the back door are pulling up...some in the high traffic area and some not. Also a few located by the heating register under the counters have slid out of place by 1/4 to 3/8 an inch. How should we go about replacing these? Were they poorly installed? Should we replace all the flooring or just the tiles that are coming up? If we replace just the ones that are coming up, how do we go about pulling out the old ones and cleaning and prepping the are for the new ones? Should we use more adhesive than just the self-sticky? hi all, We have a Utility Room and a Bathroom connected by a short hallway. All three spaces (Util, Bath, Hall) have different vinyl floors. We're pretty sure that the Bath and Util rooms have asbestos underneath so we don't want to tear them out. however, the hallway has newer vinyl and it is loose in spots. We've considered the following: 1) Tearout everything.... Yuk! No. 2) Tearout the hallway only and install a self-leveling filler to bring the level up to the Util and Bath. 3) Cutout the loose sections and install the self-leveling filler in the cutouts. 4) Do #2 above but also put in a sub-flooring on top of all three floors. Our first choice is #3. Our second choice is #2. Third is #4. #1 is not an option we want. Is #3 really viable? Is #4 the best way to go? What's the best for a sort of handy do-it-yourselfer?
