Subfloor question

I was reading the installation instructions for Armstrong Vinyl and it says to secure a wood subfloor to the concrete. Is that really necessary? I'm using 1/4 ply but I was going to let the ply float on the concrete but now I'm not sure. What's the best way?

Question

Just trying to get this right, but you mean I shouldn't secure it to the concrete or not apply it all over the concrete. I don't mind the yelling when I'm getting good advice!

Adhere it to the concrete.

The problem with underlayment over concrete is that concrete always emits some moisture vapor. That moisture would be collected in the plywood. The plywood will expand and release itself from anything used to hold it down. Make sure the floor is clean and free of any contaminents. Use the manufacturer's recommended adhesive for concrete.
