Vinyl installation

You use 1/4" plywood for vinyl installation. Luan plywood used to be the standard underlayment for vinyl floors, but it is often of unreliability quality with fillers & adhesives that can cause discoloration of vinyl. Some recommend a special underlayment grade of 1/4-in. birch plywood, which is 's expensive, but it's better to pay more than to be disappointed by ugly seams or surface defects appearing through the vinyl a few months later. PTS (plugged and touch-sanded) plywood also is an acceptable underlayment. Make sure the plywood you use is underlayment grade specifically recommended for use under vinyl floors. You should be able to find underlayment for vinyl at your local flooring dealer or home center.
