Replacing subfloor under sheet vinyl

I have a portion of subfloor near a back door that needs to be replaced due to softness (previously no gutters on house and there was some water leakage under threshold).

Is it possible to cut out the portion of vinyl and subfloor that needs to be replaced and then fill replace that portion of the subfloor without removing the entire sheet of vinyl?

I was thinking of just doing a 1/4in underlayment on top of the old sheet vinyl and putting down a new sheet.

Or am I resigned to scraping up the entire old sheet of vinyl and adhesive (I hope it's only perimeter bonded). The current vinyl is in great shape, but because of the subfloor is going to be wrecked when I start cutting.
