Unhappy 3/8th inch particle board under vinyl

Our vinyl was installed over 3/8" particle board using staples. We now have lines where there boards meet. We were told that this is required by the vinyl manufacturers. Particle board under vinyl and plywood under linoleum. Our floors look like checkerboards.

Red face Thank you for your information

Daniel, thank you for replying. We were told that particle board is okay if we keep the house at 68-70 degrees for 3 days prior to laying the particle board and for several days following the laying of the vinyl. We followed this advice but cannot prove it. Have you ever heard of such a thing?

particle board absorbs moisture out of the air, and can shrink and swell depending on the humidity. It's a terrible substrate for any floor, even carpet.
