New over old?

I want to fix floor squeaks that have developed in my one-piece vinyl floored bathroom. To do it, I'd have to screw through existing vinyl since floor below is kitchen and underside is not an option.
I'm assuming existing floor is glued over entire floor (not perimeter glued). Do I need to remove existing floor or can I install the new over the old after screwing down the squeaks? The vinyl is tight except for a little 3/4" curl near shower. The pattern is like a 3x3" ceramic tile with slight embossing.
TIA,
Bob
