vinyl adhesive removal

I need to remove some vynil adhesive remaining on a concrete floor after the removal of vynil tiles. I am familiar with the removers sold at Home Depot, etc. I would like to know if there is some other cheaper way of doing it with a home made preparation (don't want to pay $17.00/gal as i have a large area to work).
Will perhaps diesel work?
Thank you very much.

I had the same situation last month. I didnt want the caustic chemicals of regular removers. There is a line of products made from soybeans. They have mastic remover , called "Bean-e-Doo". Silly name. It worked very well. A little messy but very safe around the family. It gets messy because it melts the glue. I used sawdust to sop it up and then a heavy duty vac. It did the trick on my floor. I had to get it on the internet because I couldnt find it retail around here. Its expensive, but its a trade off, I guess. Heres the web site:
