VCT Subfloor prep??

I've laid several ceramic tile floors in our rentals but recently acquired a lot of VCT. Currently, and usually, I have a few layers of sticky square vinyl tiles; everyone knows how time consuming these things can be to get up. So, my question is this: can I just staple luan board over the few layers of sticky squares??

Thanks in advance,

Lance

What you propose is not acceptable for ceramic, but would probably work with VCT. It really isn't Kosher, but VCT is much more tolerant of movement than ceramic and will most likely hold up. I would suggest a bit more rigid material than luan though. The vinyl tiles you're going over will allow the underlayment to dimple at the staples a bit. A stiffer material will help with that to some extent. You'll need to float the whole floor with patch to get it as flat as possible and don't try to cheap out with the glue. Use the right stuff.
