Hi all, Looking for recommendations for cement basement flooring for kitchen and bathroom. Location is northern Canada and floor at at grade, dry but not that level. I will have industrial carpet installed in bedrooms, hallway and living room for foot warmth. For bath and kitchen, I do not want to lay ceramic tile if necessary, due to possible future floor settling/cracking. I've used SLC in past with good results, so will use to level concrete. House is a rental, so I want it durable, easy to maintain but on a budget. Mark

First time poster, and first time home buyer. Just bought my first house and removed carpet in one of the rooms on the first floors. Found 9x9 tiles and after reviewing the building plans (house only had 1 owner), it was listed as "Vinyl Asbestos Flooring". Once I got done removing the carpet, I found another surprise, a hole in the corner (1" x 2" hole). I know the room is on a concrete slab, but when I look through the hole I do not see any concrete. And there seems to be a thin wood subfloor between the concrete and the tile. Was the lack of concrete an indication of a moisture problem? Can i just fill the hole with concrete and level it with tile, then seal/encapsulate the tile? Ultimately I want to install laminate flooring in that room. So after the seal/encapsulating the tile, can i just lay the vapor barrier on top or do I need to do more?
