So we just bought a new home and the bathroom were extremely outdated. I started reading about DiY inexpensive ways to cover the lime green ceramic tile and came across self adhesive vinyl tiles. So I bought a few cases and got to work. I read from the same site that using a vinyl adhesive would be more effective in the tile sticking, especially on the walls. Well, it was a nightmare of a mistake. The adhesive was goopy, I used too much and the tiles would not stick to the walls. I also couldn't straight edge cut one of these tiles to save my life to fit awkward spaces. So the bathroom has not been in use since this has happened. My husband left for a week and I am determined to turn it back into a usable space for him. As you can see I am peeling up the tiles, but it's left behind the self adhesive and for the life of me I cannot get it off the walls, toilet, sink and everywhere else I got it. I feel awful. This is the only DiY I have ever failed at. Can anyone give me some recommendations on how to remove this adhesive from the walls and floor? Thanks so much for your help. Hi everyone, We just moved into a house built in 1973. The basement had carpet on-top of the original vinyl/laminate floor tiles. Carpet had to be removed due to pet dander. I removed the carpet and unfortunately it looks like some of the floor tiles are coming up. What is worse is that it looks like, at first glance, that there is mold underneath them. There might not be mod underneath the whole floor. The areas where there is mold is in the direct sunlight from the window so it sort of makes sense. I am not sure if the flooring contains asbestos or not. I'll just assume it does. Can I just clean and lay new flooring over the old vinyl tiles? Or do I need to have a professional come in and test it for asbestos and then, potentially, pay for an environmental removal of the tiles (ouch). Picture of said floor tile attached.
