To Glue or Not to Glue

Hello everyone,

I have a rather unique situation and am seeking advice. I work at a history museum and we are creating an exhibit which includes a replica kitchen. I will be using VCT tiles on the floor. There will be very little foot traffic (once or twice a year for basic cleaning) on the area. The exhibit is scheduled to be up for 5 years.

The question is, do we still need to use the recommended adhesive, or can we get away with no glue? Will the tile curl if it isn't glued down? Would a different, easier to manage glue work as a replacement (such as tacking down here and there with hot glue just to reduce movement)?

Why would you need VTC? If it's not going to be a high traffic area, why not just use peel and paste flooring? It's cheap and easy to remove. Another option is a click in place floating floor.

 

We can only find the coloring we want in VCT. We need the typical plain background with flecks of color that VCT offers. I searched for something similar in peel and stick and couldn't find anything suitable.

 

In that case you might want to glue just the edges. Just enough to prevent movement, but yet easy to take off. It's museum display and should not be subjected to abuse. However, someone like Marksr should come around and maybe have a better solution.

 

Adhesive just around the perimeter was my thought also but I'm a painter, not a flooring guy

 

A lot of modern flooring is just glued around edges.
