The flooring in my kitchen looks awful. There was some carpeting down that had been there since the early 70s. But our refridgerator messed up and the carpet got all wet and nasty so we pulled it up. Underneath we found some linoleum I am assuming. There are some pretty big gouge spots in this linoleum. I would like to pull the linoleum up and put down a new vinyl floor. The problem is, I was reading through some of the older post and found that the black backing on this is probably asbestos.(yuck) The linoleum pulls away from the subfloor(which looks to be a masonite type product over wood floor) very easily. My question is..should I pull this linoleum up or leave it down(because of asbestos. I have 7 children living in this house) and try to figure out something else to do? Have recently installed a vinyl floor in my basement over the cement. There are two doorways from the basement = one to the entry, one to a store room. I have vinyl against vinyl from basement to entry and vinyl against carpeting from basement to store room. Having a hard time finding a flooring strip to put between the vinyl to vinyl and vinyl to carpet. Cannot nail a strip down - cement underneath. Cannot seem to find a glue type strip to use. HELP! Any advice on what to use on the floor to separate/join/complete the transitions would greatly be appreciated. Both of these areas would be under a door (a door separates each room).
