vinyl spacing

I am remodeling and putting down vinyl planks. Spoke with a fellow that has installed these type of floors and he told me that there is no concern about expansion with vinyl so i could butt the planks right up to my molding. Anything I have seen advises 1/4" spacing to allow for expansion. Any advise?

1/4" spacing is typical, and it's likely what your installation instructions suggest. Why would you need to seek advice contrary to the mfg instructions? There are occasions where you might butt one side of the layout up against something solid, like a bathtub... as long as the other sides are free to move, it can work okay.

Putting it tight to the molding everywhere is just asking for problems.

I've done a bunch of vinyl plank at our house the last few years and always pulled up the baseboards and replaced afterwards. Can't imagine trying to butt up against the existing molding and have it look decent.
