I'm going to install new sheet vinal. The old vinyl has a pattern. If I can pull up thr surface of the old vinyl (leaving a smooth surfafe of felt) can I install the new directly over it? Full spread 12' Congolium.
thx

Vinyl install

Go to http://www.doityourself.com/install and scroll down and click vinyl for some DIY tips. If you bought a warranted product, you might want to check with manufacturer re: how installing vinyl over vinyl will affect your warranty. There are floor patch products to prep and smooth surfaces before you install vinyl. These are usually powders that you mix with water and then smooth over the surface. The quality of your install will depend on how secure and smooth the old vinyl is. Typically, 1/4" luan underlayment without fillers, plasticizers, glues (to eliminate chemical reactions that may cause yellowing/discoloration of new vinyl) is recommended as an underlayment beneath vinyl. This can be installed over old vinyl and seams made smooth with the floor patch for a super smooth and clean underlayment for new vinyl. You might also find some useful info at http://www.congoleum.com.
