Question old vinyl

I am installing new vinyl tiles. My current floor is vinyl sheeting over concrete. It has pulled away from the molding exposing concrete in a couple places. According to the directions, I can lay the tiles right over the old vinyl if it is intact. But what do I do about the unlevel area where concrete is exposed. I thought about pulling up the old vinyl, but the salesman says that is too involved and reccommends a smoothing compound.

What is the best choice?

Installing vinyl tiles over vinyl

The new floor will only be as secure as the floor beneath it. If it is secure, and loose areas along edges are cut out with a utility knife, you can use floor patch to smooth out the areas you removed. Go to www.doityourself.com/vinylfloors for helpful info.
