removing vinyl

I pulled up my old vinyl floor and now affronted with the task of removing the left over backing that is stuck to the floor. Is there a spray out there that can soften the backing to make removing easier?

also, should i sand the ply sublayer or having it clean is good enough.

Any tips would be appreciated.

I asked the same question recently and did as was recommended and it worked. Use a heat gun (available at tool stores, HD, etc) to soften the adhesive and then use a scraper to scrape it up. It is painstaking work. I tried different types of adhesive remover with no luck. I suppose the question about sanding the plywood depends on what it's like after removing the backing. Sanding is a lot easier than scraping up the backing.
