Replacing vinyl bathroom floor with ceramic tile.

I want to replace my vinyl floor with ceramic tile. This is in my bathroom. Do I need to pull up the vinyl or can I just put ceramic tile over the vinyl? Is there any special tile that I need to use?

Tile needs to be based on a solid and sound surface. If you tile over the lino, you will have problems. Tiles and grout crack without a solid surface.

You could use a cement board (like Durock) over the lino, but you could still have problems. If it were me, I would remove everything down to the subfloor. Be sure the subfloor is in good condition and then use cement board and then apply tile with thinset mortar required by the tile you choose.

Any tile that you like and fits your budget is fine. being in a bath, I would recommend something that will not be slick with water on top.
