Question Ceramic Floor Tile Cracking/Chipping

Hi All,

I'm considering having ceramic floor tile professionally installed in my basement office. It is currently carpeted, which is wearing out under my office chair. Previously, I tried two different carpet protectors (one expensive) but they were both distroyed in no time at all. I'm a big guy (6'6"/270#). Does anyone have personal experience that the ceramic tile will not crack, chip or surface spall?

The wheels on your chair will wear out long before the tiles.
on that, don't get tiles with heavy grainy texure- looks nice but abrasive for the wheels.
dont rule out carpets yet; there are heavy use carpets out there just dont install them over thick padding- this will cause carpet to wearout faster since your chair will be constantly moving back and forth.
Just my perspective
